Match Report 27th April 2022
Well we certainly had a close call with the numbers this month. With several away and those who were not well/hospital, it came down to only 10 players. Before going into the golf side, our thoughts go out to all those who are unwell and wish them a speedy recovery or free from pain.
On to the golf, it was very windy but dry as we set out to do battle with the course. The greens were not too good after recent course maintenance and the fairways were very hard. But we managed to get round and for a small field some very good scores considering the wind etc. Great to see Henry Cooper back into the fold once more, after Tracy’s recent operations, to which she is now on the mend. The surprise was how well Martin Walker has come on leaps and bounds with his game taking great shape, well done Martin keep it up.
Golf over it was back to the Elburton for food and prizes. Great food as always and thanks go out to the Staff for looking after us.
Prizes went as follows:
NTP 7th Phil Davidson
NTP 15th Tom Hunt
In 3rd place with 33 point was Ken Elford
In 2nd place beaten on count back was last months winner Tom Hunt with 34 points
But in first place and a welcome back was Henry Cooper with 34 point.
Mr Captain thanked everyone and hoped to see as many as possible at next months venue China Fleets Club on the 25th May.
There being nothing else, it was back to the bar for a quick light refreshment before heading off home for an early night.

Match Report 25th May 2022
Well once again with many away it was a small field that battled the elements at the China fleet GC. Nine players set out in what was to start with horrendous wind and rain, which thankfully abated as the afternoon went on. This reflected in the scores coming in, but overall well done to everyone who took part.
Golf over it was back to the Elburton for food and prizes (no fines as it was getting late, my fault double up next month). Great to see Bill Sandell and Chris Thorpe join us for the evening meal, and Chris said he hoped to be playing once more next month. Great food once again and thanks went to the Staff of the Elburton.
Prizes went as follows:
NTP 7th Dave Hood
NTP 15th Howard Coffey
3rd place with 26 points went to Chris Mavin (beating Ken Elford on count back)
2nd place with 27 points went to Howard Coffey
And in 1st place with 31 points weas Dave Hood
So as you can see it was the Dave & Howard show this month.
Mr Captain Tony Young thanked everyone, and hoped to see you all next month at Elfordliegh on the 22nd June teeing off at 1300.
There being nothing else, it was back to the bar for a few more light refreshments before going home.
Match Report Elfordliegh
Wednesday 22nd June 2022
Well what a really hot day to do battle. With 12 players and a team competition as well, we all headed off to tackle the course. It was great to see Bill Sandell back and playing once more after his operation, well done Bill. Well it turned out to be a bit of a disaster with several members having to give up before the 18 holes due to the heat and totally exhausted . The very slow play did not help, along with additional 2 balls out on the course. Harry Bradley had an accident when he fell out of the buggy due to his knee giving way, but along with a nasty graze he carried on till the end. In situations like these and general rules of golf we must try to keep up with the pace and take your shots if you knowingly can not reach the team in front, thus keeping the flow of the round going. Apart from that we all got back to the Elburton reasonably safely.
With only 7 back to eat, it was a quiet evening for food and prizes. Thanks went out to the Elburton for the food.
The prizes went as follows
Team scores
Rogers team 73 points
Kens team 80 points
Winner Dave’s team with 88 points (4 x one unit lotto tickets)
2 club Henry Cooper (£5.00)
NTP 6th Henry Cooper (just an inch from a hole in one – great shot Henry) (1 x lotto ticket)
NTP 10 Mick Speller (1 x lotto ticket)
In 3rd place with 30 points was Dave Hood
In 2nd place beaten on countback with 32 point was Chris Mavin (2x lotto ticket)
But in 1st place with 32 point was Howard Coffey (3x lotto ticket)
(Howard checked all the tickets for any winners but unfortunately no winners on the night)
Mr Vice Graham Haffenden thanked the committee and the Elburton, plus all those that played today in what was very hot conditions. Although he will not be at next month venue, he hoped to see a full turn out at Staddon Heights in July. There being no further actions, it was back to the bar for a few more light refreshments before going home.

Match Report Wednesday 27th July 2022
Well 12 players this month, and what a great welcome back to Steve Body after over a year away with hip etc problems. The weather was great little wind and not too hot (not like last month). Tea/coffee Bacon Rolls put away it was off to tackle the course, and the overall scores showed how well the course was playing. The greens were very fast but in great condition, the fairways were very brown and wispy, which made the rough a little more easy to get out of. The scores worked out to an average score of 31 points, well done everyone.
Golf over it was back to the Elburton for food prizes and fines. As usual great food from the staff at the Elburton. The fines this month as things were running a little late was £2 a head.
The prizes went as follows: (this month it was bottles of wine for the prizes)
NTP 15th Tom Hunt
NTP 17th Martin Walker (well done)
In 3rd place on count back with 33 points was Chris Mavin
In 2nd place was Mr Captain Tony Young with 36 points
But in 1st place with a score of 37 points went to Ken Elford (Mr Steady)
Mick Speller asked that could all members please let him know as early as possible once the notice of play goes up, with regards to the following months venue, as we have to provide final numbers to the venue course the week before playing in a lot of cases.
Next month is our away day at Trethorne on Wednesday 24th August teeing off at 1230. Tea/Coffee Bacon Roll on arrival and a one course meal on completion of the game.
Mr Captain Tony young thanked everyone for a great day and the comradeship which carries on within the Society, he also thanked the staff of the Elburton and hoped to see as many as possible next month at Trethorne.
There being nothing else, it was back to the bar for a few more light refreshment before going home.
Match Report Trethorne
Wednesday 24th August
Match Report by Bill Sandell
On arrival at Trethorne we had a bacon bap and coffee, there were 10 members playing golf, the weather was not very kind to us and we were met with showers throughout the round, because of the weather conditions it reflected on the scorecards
There were 2 nearest the pins the 8th and 16th. The 8th was won by Graham Haffenden and he received a bottle of wine there were no takers on the 16th.
The first 3 places in the 18 hole stableford were, 1st Phil Davidson with 32pts in second place was Roger Cox with 29 pts each winning a bottle of wine and in 3rd place was Bill Sandell with 28 pts
The lowest was Chris Mavin who received a large packet of tees.
The Captain congratulated all the winners and presented the prizes, he thanked all for turning up and thanked the staff at Trethorne for a very good meal. He welcomed Steve Reeve back into the fold and sent his best wishes to D Hood, J Lines, Mick Speller and M Ward. We then went around the table with fines and we all hoped to meet again at Whitsand Bay in September

Final Match Report 2022
Stover GC Thursday 13th October 2022
Well what a turn out and great to see long lost members back playing in this the final game of the Season and the Paddy Fitzgerald Memorial trophy. We welcomed back John Lockwood having great news that he is now clear of Prostate, Steve Reeve, Tony Cunnigham and Richard & Jo Traffod. Tom Hunt, Henry Cooper and Mike Ward sent their regards but were unavailable and Steve Body regretfully pulled out being on the safe side of potential covid, but proved not to be. It was also sad that Johns Brother Dave Lockwood could not play as his wife was poorly.
So it was 17 players going out in Eclectic order (as near as possible) in what was shirt sleeve order (what heavy rain) to play for the Eclectic Trophy and the Paddy Fitzgerald Trophy, and the course was in very good order, the greens were fast and with some very Subtle breaks. This reflected on the scores coming in with 9 players recording a score of 29 or more. The Ectectic was more of a certainty this year compared to last year when it went down to the wire but still good stiff competition among the leading groups.
Golf over it was back to the Elburton for food, fines and prizes and our traditional last supper Steak night. As usual food was great and the banter of the fines was at its usual high spirits and all taken in good fun.
The time came for the prizes and they were as follows:
NTP 7th Ken Elford (bottle of wine)
NTP 13th Graham Haffenden (bottle of wine)
Last place with 14 points and 3 balls went to John Lockwood (welcome back mate)
3rd Place with 34 points was Graham Haffenden
2nd Place with 36 points was Roger Cox (bottle of wine)
In 1st Place with 38 Points and the winner of the Paddy Fitzgerald Trophy was Phil Davidson (bottle of wine)
The final placings for the Eclectic went as follows:
In 3rd place with 37 points was Roger cox
In joint 2nd place with 40 points was Howard Coffey & Chris Mavin
And the winner of the 2022 Eclectic Trophy with 49 points was Ken Elford.
Mick Speller thanked everyone for another season and stated that the last thing this year was the Xmas dinner which is on Wednesday 7th December details already on the web. To which Bill Sandell stated that the wine on the table will come out of the society funds, and that will still leave us with approx. £300 left in the kitty.
Mr Captain after giving out the prizes was not feeling well and asked the Mr Vice Graham give the thank you speech. Graham thanked the Elburton and everyone for a great season and with that thanked those that joined us for the first time in a while and hoped that we will see them next season on a more regular basis. Graham also wished those that are poorly or have been poorly that the societies thoughts are with you on your way to recovery.
Last but not least Dave Hood said that he was getting a little concerned that the numbers were dwindling and would our society be able to continue, but with the turn out and enthusiasm of today and old members coming back into the fold the Society looks good for the future. There being nothing else it was back to the bar for a few more light refreshments before going home.
